A HOUSE in Gweru's Ivene suburb was reduced to ashes by a mysterious inferno. The house, belonging to Miriam Gumbo and her husband Tatenda Mabeza, was on Saturday morning engulfed in flames under unclear circumstances.
Speaking to B-Metro, the visibly terrified Mabeza, said he had gone to their garden which is just 200 metres from the house when the incident occurred.
"I had gone to the garden to water vegetables when I saw smoke coming from my house's direction. I quickly left the garden and rushed home. I managed to get in and I was shocked as my wife was still sleeping in our bedroom. I woke her up and she screamed for help while I managed to ferry some of the property outside," said Mabeza.
Neighbours came on time they managed to put out the fire.
"We were lucky because neighbours' rushed to help and passersby also helped us. Only our dining-room and kitchen were affected while the other rooms were spared of the mysterious inferno," said Mabeza.
His wife was still shocked by the incident.
"I am still shocked by the incident and I am still wondering what could have been the cause. Who knows, I could have died inside there if my husband had not come," said Gumbo.
