A WOMAN from Sipepa area in Tsholotsho fought an intruder who broke into her room while she was asleep and tried to rape her during the night.

This was heard by Tsholotsho magistrate Abedinico Ndebele when Khumbulani Moyo (33) appeared before him charged with attempted rape and unlawful entry.

Moyo was denying the charge but after full trial the magistrate convicted and sentenced him to a total of seven years in jail and suspended two years for three years on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that on July 18 2014 the complainant a 58 year old woman retired for bed alone at her home at around 7pm. During the night Moyo forced the door of her hut open and entered before grabbing the woman and lifting her and throwing her on the bed. He then tried to strip her undressed at the same time demanding sex from her. He further strangled her neck using his both hands in a bid to block her from screaming for help.

The woman managed to get hold of his right hand and bite one of his fingers.

Moyo further hit her three times on the head and once on the mouth with a fist resulting in her sustaining bruises and losing some of her front teeth.

Moyo then fled from the scene and a report made to the police led to his arrest.
