PLUMTREE - A 75 year old granny from Bulilima reportedly hired a 'sniper' to poison her 18year-old grandson so that she could take over the house that he inherited from his father, a court heard yesterday.
Evelyn Mpofu from Matjinge area and her neighbour, who allegedly administered the poison, are jointly charged with murder.
Mpofu is alleged to have hired Skipa Ngwenya, 45, who was her grandson's football team coach to administer the poison and promised to pay him a heifer.
She allegedly failed to honour her promise after her grandson, Mxolisi Nkomo's death in February this year, prompting Ngwenya to expose her.
Plumtree magistrate Livard Philemon yesterday remanded the two in custody to November 11.
A recent medical report presented by a pathologist confirmed that Nkomo died of food poisoning.
Mpofu had initially claimed that he collapsed and died due to breathing problems and the matter was treated as sudden death.
In court yesterday, Ngwenya admitted to the charges and implicated Mpofu who had earlier denied the charges before the police and the community leadership.
