A Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative in Plumtree was beaten up during a drinking spree in a brawl over $2.

Taboka Muthabayi (25) discovered that his money had been stolen and accused his friend of taking it.

Farai Kudiwa (28) was angered by the allegations and the two started fighting.

Their peers who were with them offered Muthabayi a $2 note in order to end the conflict but he insisted that he wanted his original money and refused to drop the matter.

Kudiwa then struck the CIO operative with a brick on his head.

Kudiwa appeared before Plumtree magistrate Mr Livard Philemon facing assault charges.

Kudiwa, however, denied the charges and alleged that Muthabayi attacked him first after accusing him of stealing his money.

He told the court that the complainant was the first to punch him and demanded his money back resulting in a fight between them.

The complainant insisted that the accused person assaulted him.

"We were playing a game of pool at Frank's Bar and I placed my money at the snooker ball exit pocket. When I later checked it was gone. There was no-one close by and that is why I demanded my money from Kudiwa who in turn got pissed off,'' said Muthabayi.

He said his friend then struck him with a brick on his head. Muthabayi said Kudiwa stopped assaulting him after he was restrained by their peers.

Prosecuting, Mr Clemence Shawarira said Kudiwa was alleged to have assaulted the complainant on 22 October around 10pm at a bar in Dingumuzi.

He said a misunderstanding arose after the complainant accused Kudiwa of stealing his money which he had placed in a snooker ball exit pocket.

Mr Shawarira said the allegations angered Kudiwa who hit the complainant once with a stone, injuring him on the head.

Kudiwa was remanded out of custody to 4 November for continuation of trial.
