Five ZANU PF councillors in Gwanda are reported to have involved themselves in a huge stands sale corruption scandal which saw them get huge kickbacks that earned them each new motor vehicles and huge amounts of cash.
Reliable sources within the council told Bulawayo24 via a whatsapp tip off that the five councillors connived to sale over 300 stands to a land developer outside proper council procedures. In return the investor paid the councillors and two other council officers kick backs that ranged from cash to motor vehicles.
The tip off to Bulawayo24 coincidentally came at the same time with reports that the Mayor of the town Councillor Knowledge Ndlovu revealed in a full council meeting this week that one councillor and a council official are being implicated in a land sale scandal involving sale of nine stands. According to reports Mayor Ndlovu has warned that his council will intensively investigate the alleged corruption in the sale of stands in the town.
On enquiry, Bulawayo 24 was able to confirm that indeed about five councillors from the town recently acquired new vehicles albeit with a background of very low resources. The sources further alleged that the land developer went further to pay part of the due on the land using a fleet of five vehicles which the developer bought on credit from a supplier in Harare. According to the leak the vehicles in question have still not been registered in the council's name.
