The never ending Gwanda water woes have inevitably claimed the life of a prominent Gwanda Police Officer who had gone to fetch water from Mtshabezi River.
The Police Officer, name supplied, drowned in the late hours of this afternoon while fetching raw water for domestic use. Contradicting eye witness reports seam to be indicating that the Police Officer went to the river to fetch water before deciding to dive into the river to freshen up from the scorching heat which reached a maximum of 39 degrees in the area. The man is reported not to have resurfaced after diving in.
Other sources at the scene give a rather weird version of the incident claiming that the Officer was fetching water at the banks of the river before being snatched into the River by a mermaid. The eye witness insist that a creature looking like a human being at the same time looking like a huge fish swiftly snatched the man into the river and disappeared with him.
"The people of Gwanda have come to a stage where it is now difficult to contain them over the water problems and this calls for an urgent solution to the matter," said Dube.
Asked for a comment on the water problems in the town, the Chairman of the Gwanda Residents Association Mr Gilbert Dube, said that the issue of water cuts in the town has gone beyond the patience of residents and anything drastic can be expected from the residents anytime soon. According to Dube, the Residents Association has since called for a meeting between Council, ZINWA and Residents Representatives to find a way forward on the matter.
"The people of Gwanda have come to a stage where it is now difficult to contain them over the water problems and this calls for an urgent solution to the matter," said Dube.
