The adage, "who is going the guard" rang true for OK supermarket in Hwange after one of its security details assigned to ensure nothing is stolen allegedly turned thief.

Clemensia Nyoni (44), a female security guard employed by Safeguard Security Company, heaved a sigh of relief when she was cautioned for stealing 4 litres of Mazoe Orange Crush at OK Hwange.

Nyoni who was on duty at OK Hwange on 13 November 2014 kept a fiscal receipt which was ignored by Peter Chuma who had bought 2x2 litres of Mazoe orange crush worth $5.50. She then assigned Elias Moyo, an airtime vendor to get into the supermarket and take 2x2 litres of Mazoe orange crush and leave them at the till.

Moyo complied, and at the time of closing shop, Nyoni produced an invalid receipt and claimed that an unknown customer had bought the Mazoe and left it in her custody.

Suspecting foul play the supermarket till supervisor reported the matter to the police leading to her arrest.

Nyoni who was caught on CCTV commit ting the offence later admitted to having stolen the Mazoe. Nyoni who has since lost her job over the incident pleaded for leniency before Hwange provincial magistrate, Mrs Portia Mhlanga, claiming that an unknown evil spirit had caused her to commit the offence.

"Your honour, I don't understand what happened I'm sure an evil spirit had possessed me. I pray that this court be lenient with me as I have since lost the job over the incident and sending me to prison would result in my two children starving since I'm the breadwinner," pleaded Nyoni.

She was cautioned and discharged. Mr Onias Nyathi appeared for the State.
