Cops accused of torture

A headlands man has reported assault charges against the police, claiming one of the cops budged into his bedroom at night, tortured him and stole his money.

Witness Murasiwa, through his lawyer Tafadzwa Christmas from the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, has written to Home Affairs minister Kembo Mohadi, advising him of his intention to sue the police and claim damages.

In the notice fired off on Wednesday, Christmas said a police officer only identified as Chikari visited his house on November 12 while in the company of a large mob that was wielding an assortment of weapons.

His lawyers said the assailants wanted him in connection with an alleged assault case. Fearing for his life, Murasiwa refused to get out of the house.
