A Central Intelligence Organisation operative was last week arrested after he allegedly hired a gang to assault, abduct and rob a soldier of $300 while he was relieving himself in a nearby bush in Gweru.
Andrew Dumba (54) of Mkoba Village 9 in Gweru pleaded not guilty to robbery as defined in section 126 (1)(a) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23 when he appeared before Gweru provincial magistrate Mrs Phathekhile Msipa.
Dumba was remanded out of custody to 23 December for trial.
For the State, Mr Bernard Nyoni alleged that Dumba teamed up with five other unidentified men to assault, abduct and rob Dennis Manyongori (26) of Five Brigade Headquarters who is employed as a soldier in the Ministry of Defence.
Mr Nyoni alleged that on 15 November this year, at around 6 am, the complainant who was in Gweru central business district tried to relieve himself at a nearby bush and was spotted by six men who then followed and grabbed him.
He said the suspects took Manyongori to Dumba's office where the six men together with Dumba allegedly assaulted the complainant several times all over his body using a plank and a broom stick.
The court heard that the accused person ordered Manyongori to surrender all the money he had and he gave Dumba $300.
Mr Nyoni said the complainant was then ordered to vacate the place using a door which was at the back of the building.
He said Manyongori reported the matter to the police, leading to Dumba's arrest.
The other suspects are still at large.
