Four people killed in a gas explosion in Matobo

Four people, all members of the same family have been killed in a fire at a shop in Nyongolo Business Centre Matshiphisane Village ward 8, Matobo North under Chief Bidi.

Reports trickling through from the village indicate that one of the members of the family was switching on a gas fridge in the early hours of this morning when the gas leaked and burst into a huge flame which also burst a 200 litre drum of petrol which was being sold in the shop.

According to reports from the scene of the fire, three people died on the spot while a fourth died at near by Maphosa Hospital a few hours after. One of them reported to be the mother is said to be in a very critical condition at the hospital.

Meanwhile police in Maphisa have indicated that they are not yet in a condition to comment on the incident as they are still waiting for forensic experts from Gwanda to check what could have caused the accident.
