Man stabs ex-wife to death in Gwanda

A Gwanda woman has been brutally murdered by her former husband.

Sikhathele Mpofu was murdered on Friday evening near Gwanda Rural District Council workshop close to the railway line.

The body of the diseased was only removed from the murder site on Saturday morning.

The suspect stabbed the victim several times with a knife and in some instances flesh was also cut off.

An eye witness and relative who was with the deceased on the fateful day said the accused Peter Phiri pounced on them in a bushy area while they were on their way home to Jacaranda suburbs.

He is said to have dragged his former wife to a secluded place and brutally stabbed her.

After killing her, Phiri pursued the other woman who, however, hid at a nearby service station.

Police were alerted but delayed getting to the site till dark.

Meanwhile, the police have since launched a manhunt for Phiri who is said to be residing in Beitbridge.

The deceased is said to have been married to Phiri for 15 years before the marriage broke down.

As a couple, they had three children.
