Gwanda to relocate dumpsite

The Gwanda municipality refuse dumpsite is set to be relocated soon following the approval of the environmental impact assessment report of the place.
The current refuse dumpsite which is close to Hlalani Kuhle Township has been condemned as a health hazard and recommendations to move it were made last year.
Gwanda mayor Councillor Knowledge Ndlovu said they are working with World Vision Zimbabwe on the waste management programme.
He said apart from the solid waste management, they are also working on containing affluent that is polluting Manzamnyama and Mutshabezi rivers in line with the country's environmental law.
Meanwhile, Councillor Ndlovu has commended the local business community for investing in sound infrastructure in line with the local authority's by-laws.
Gwanda town, which is the provincial capital of Matabeleland South, has seen new state-of-the-art buildings mushrooming in the central business district, courtesy of local investors.
Mayor Ndlovu said the continued investment by locals is a confidence boost in the town's investor friendly regulations.
He added that the local authority is putting in place new incentives for investors in a bid to attract even more businesses to the town.
The mayor also revealed that the local authority will this year exhibit at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair with the hope of marketing the town and also expanding its industry.
