Gwayi-Shangani dam project on course

Environment, Water and Climate minister Saviour Kasukuwere does not know whether treasury has disbursed funds for the resumption of construction at the Gwayi-Shangani Dam.

Despite this, Kasukuwere claimed all was on schedule and the contractor would be back on site soon following a normal seasonal break.

In June 2014, Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa pledged $10 million towards the construction of the dam, under a project being implemented by China Africa Sunlight Technology but Kasukuwere said he is not in the know whether Zimbabwe government has made the cash injection.

He said government is committed towards the completion of the dam to unlock Matabeleland's potential.

The project is set to create a greenbelt, where areas along it would benefit from major irrigation schemes that would be established.
