Man stabbed over nickname

A 54-YEAR-OLD man suffered severe wounds after his younger brother stabbed him three times with a knife as punishment for teasing him.
Hlanganani Ndlovu (30) of Dombodema area in Bultlima District appeared before Plumtree magistrate Mr Gideon Ruvetsa on attempted murder charges after he stabbed Jabulani Ndlovu.
He appeared on initial remand.
Hlanganani became furious after the complainant called him Mavhonokela.
He drew a knife from his jacket and stabbed his elder brother once on the neck and twice on the left arm. Prosecuting, Mr Clemence Shawarira said the complainant was on his way to visit the accused person when the incident occurred.
He said Ndlovu from Stand number 4 proceeded to Hlanganani's homestead at Stand number 17 on 4 February around 7pm.
"While he was on his way the complainant met the accused person who was coming from his shops and greeted him by his nickname — Mavhonokela.
"This did not please the accused person who then warned his brother against nicknaming him:' said Mr Shawarira.
He said Ndlovu apologised and then indicated that he was on his way to visit the accused person.
He said Hlanganani ordered the complainant to return to his homestead but he insisted on continuing with his journey
"The complainant refused to turn back and insisted on proceeding with his journey. Hlanganani followed him at a distance and he stabbed his elder brother three times.
"The complainant fell to the ground but rose and fled from the accused person who tried to stab him again," he said
Mr Shawarira said the complainant sought refuge at a nearby homestead and was later referred to the Plumtree District Hospital for treatment.
Hlanganani was remanded in custody to 23 February. In another incident, a neighbourhood watch committee member from Mangwe struck his workmate with a log on the head at a memorial service after accusing him of being involved in criminal activities within the area.
Deman Tshuma (29) of Bango area appeared before Plumtree magistrate Mr Gideon Ruvetsa facing two counts of assault He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment of which six months were suspended for five years on condition that he does not within the period commit an offence of the same nature.
The remaining 12 months were suspended on condition that Tshuma performs 420 hours of community service at Mayobodo Primary School.
Prosecuting, Mr Stanley Chinyanganya said Tshuma assaulted Kevin Moyo (31) on 20 January
"The complainant and Tshuma were drinking beer together and Tshuma started accusing the complainant of taking part in criminal activities within the area;' he said
He said the complainant later walked to the gate in order to leave and his workmate followed him and struck him on the head with a log.
Under the second count Tshuma also beat up a 17-year-old teenager for restraining him from proposing love to his 14-year-old niece.
