Poaching incidents through the use of cyanide have re-surfaced at Pelandaba village in Tsholotsho.

This follows the death of two elephants discovered last week.

Parks and Wildlife Management Authority is yet to shed more light on the matter after investigations have been completed.

Last year, cyanide killed over 100 elephants at Hwange National Park after it was put in a water source within the national park.

The government has however imposed stiffer penalties for poachers.

Illegal possession of ivory and rhino horn now attracts a minimum mandatory sentence of 9 years in terms of the General Law Amendment Number 97 of 2010, while administering poisonous substances to the environment such as cyanide attracts a jail sentence of a minimum of 5 years.
