THE Bulawayo-Tsholotsho road will soon be upgraded in anticipation of heavier traffic following the promotion of Tsholotsho Football Club to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Provincial Affairs Minister for Matabeleland North, Cain Mathema, said this during an interview on the sidelines of a tour of the Tsholotsho Stadium construction site by the Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Jonathan Moyo last Friday Minister Mathema said the coming of topflight football to the area would also change the face of the growth point which would bring a lot of development.
He said the road was a top priority in government's agenda together with the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road.
"It's clear that we will now have an increase in traffic on the Bulawayo-Tsholotsho Road hence the need to expedite the rehabilitation of that road which is indeed in a bad shape. The road is on the Zim-Asset agenda and we will soon be working on it. We also need to fulfil what we promised our people during the election campaign period," said Minister Mathema.
He said the rehabilitation of the road had been put on hold for sometime largely due to the illegal sanctions imposed on the country by Britain and her allies as the government could not source funds for the project.
The Bulawayo-Tsholotsho Road, despite being a strip, is littered with dangerous potholes from the 16km peg at the Nyamandlovu turn-off right up to Ngqoya area, less than 10km from Tsholotsho Business Centre.
The rehabilitation of the Bulawayo-Tsholotsho Road will become the second major project to be undertaken by the government so far this year in Tsholotsho after the announcement that the construction of the Tsholotsho Stadium would now be carried out by the government.
