Victoria Falls explodes as Mugabe arrives

President Robert Mugabe has arrived in Victoria Falls ahead of the 21st February Movement celebrations set for tomorrow.

The president arrived in the company of the First Family, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda and senior government officials.

He was met on arrival at Victoria Falls International Airport by the two vice presidents, Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mpoko, government ministers and service chiefs.

Meanwhile, all is set for the main celebrations and the gala which will be held tomorrow at the Elephant Hills golf course and Chinotimba Stadium respecvtively.

Acting Director - Rural Communications in the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Mr Alois Chamboko expressed satisfaction with preparations for the big event and called on the public to come out in their numbers to celebrate the life and achievements of President Mugabe who turned 91 last saturday.

"We are almost there, everything is set, our stage, our PA system, our water, everything. We are just waiting for tomorrow so that Victoria Falls will be alive especially in the evening after the celebrations in the day," said Chamboko.

Musicians who will be performing are drawn from all over the country and include gospel star, Shingisai Suluma, Sulumani Chimbetu, IYASA and Sandra Ndebele, among others.

The gala kicks off at 6 O'clock on Saturday evening.

This year's celebrations will be held under theme: 'Celebrating the Birth of Gushungo: The Icon of Zimbabwe's Liberation and Champion of Youth Empowerment.'

Delegates attending the celebrations are also now in Victoria falls.

The children delegates comprising those born on 21 February from all the country's provinces in spent the day visiting various places in the resort town.

Some of the activities included interacting with elephants, a visit to the Crocodile Farm and boat cruise, where a lucky group of children had a rare opportunity to see an elephant family swim across the Zambezi River.

Later in the day, the children had a time of their life where they visited the mighty Victoria Falls where hordes of tourists were also having one of their best times of their lives.

In the evening, Zanu PF Secretary for Youths, Pupurai Togarepi is hosting a dinner for delegate
