'Man of God' caught pants down

A SALVATION Army officer stationed at Mazeya in Insiza District has once again caused a stir in the area after he was reportedly caught pants down with a local villager's wife in the wee hours of Tuesday, 17 February.
Soon after being caught, Lieutenant Knowledge Chipendo, allegedly stormed out of the house in his underwear and handed himself over to the village head.
The incident did not surprise villagers as Lt Chipendo was last month summoned and appeared before Chief Maduna for having an affair with the local teacher's wife.
Headman Dalumuzi Mpofu confirmed the incident and said villagers are now demanding that the officer be transferred before "he causes more problems".
"He came to me half-undressed as there were some people who were after his head. His main reason was that he wanted the matter to be resolved peacefully and amicably so that it could not be taken to the chief, like what happened last month," said Headman Mpofu.
"I attended last month's case where he appeared before Chief Maduna for having an affair with the local teacher's wife. Chipendo was found guilty and fined a goat. The chief was very angry and stressed because what Chipendo is doing is not good for the community. He asked him to peacefully vacate his area, if he could not lead by example."
Headman Mpofu also added that he warned the man of the cloth to change his behaviour but his words seem to have fallen on deaf ears, as Lt Chipendo has once again committed a similar offence.
"I warned him after the first case and it seems he did not listen and now he has to go because as uGodlwayo we cannot have people coming in to cause havoc. We want peace and if there is someone who wants to destabilise that he or she will have to leave," he said.
A local villager, Mr Moses Mathe, said people are contemplating forcing Lt Chipendo to leave before he "starts siring children" since "he can't keep his zip closed".
Efforts to get a comment from Chipendo were fruitless as his mobile was not reachable.
The incident comes hard on the heels of reports that an administrator at a Salvation Army-run school has been sleeping with a Lower Six pupil since she was in Grade Six.
Major Itai Mutizwa, the head of the church in the Matabeleland region, was not reachable for comment.
