A 55 year old woman has been dragged to court after she allegedly strangled to death a convicted rapist who invaded her house armed with two spears, intending to kill her and her 13 year old niece whom he was convicted of raping.
The woman turned the tables on Thursday last week, a day before he was supposed to be sentenced for raping her 13 niece. Phenias Moyo, of Jambezi allegedly grabbed two spears and went to the home of his victim, intending to kill her and her aunt for reporting him to the police. He had been convicted of raping the teenager on Tuesday last week, by a regional magistrate in Hwange.
Police who rushed to the woman's home to investigate claims that Moyo had threatened to kill her and her niece before committing suicide, found him already dead.
Moyo was remanded out of custody for sentencing the following day but he failed to show up in court. He allegedly took the opportunity to track down the victim and her aunt who testified against him in court.
It could not be established why he was not in custody after being found guilty of rape. Ncube, who lives with the teenage niece, is married to Moyo's elder brother. Ncube appeared in court yesterday charged with culpable homicide and was not asked to plead. Victoria Falls magistrate Sharon Rosemani remanded her to March 13 on $100 bail. Ncube allegedly stabbed Moyo on the hand thinking she would run away.
Instead she turned on him and grabbed him by the neck before choking him until he died.
Moyo's body was taken to hospital for postmortem.
