A 49-YEAR-OLD man from Ntabazinduna in Matabeleland North province allegedly assaulted and stabbed his wife after she confronted him over allegations of trying to rape his 18-year-old daughter.

The woman was admitted to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH).

Last month, the man allegedly pounced on his 18-year-old daughter, a pupil at Madlelanyoni Secondary School, while she was in her bedroom hut .

He unzipped his pants exposing his manhood. The complainant screamed and wrestled with the accused before escaping, the court heard.

The man appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze facing two counts of attempted rape and assault.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to March 16.

The court heard that the pupil told her neighbour and also phoned her mother who was in Bulawayo.

Her mother immediately travelled to their homestead and confronted her husband over the matter, the court heard.

The father allegedly lost his marbles and punched his wife three times on the back before stabbing her with a knife on her right hand.

Prosecuting, Nkathazo Dlodlo told the court that on February 21, the accused went into the complainant's bedroom hut as she was preparing to go to church.

"He pushed her to the ground and got on top of her while she was lying facing upwards," said Dlodlo.

The father then tried to rape her but she screamed, wrestled with him and dashed out of the room, the court heard.

Dlodlo said the man punched his wife thrice and stabbed her on her hand when she confronted him about the attempted rape.
