AN 18-YEAR-OLD man from Kenihvorth in Inyathi, Matabeleland North Province stabbed his neighbour several times for allegedly foiling in love with his girlfriend.
It is the State's case that Ayanda Ndlovu met Hopewell Dube on 9 February around 5pm strolling down the road with Ayanda's teen lover (name with held) and got incensed.
The court heard that Ayanda asked the pair what they were doing and they told him that they were going to the shops. But Ayanda could take none of that and accused his lover of cheating on him.
An argument ensued and at the height of it, Ayanda took out an Okapi knife and stabbed Hopewell nine times all over the body. As a result of the savage stabbing, Hopewell bled profusely and collapsed. He was rushed to Inyathi District Hospital by a relative Dumisani.
The matter was later reported to the police leading to Ayanda's arrest.
When he appeared before magistrate on circuit, Mr Ndumo Masuku, the remorseful Ayanda pleaded guilty to an assault charge and said he was under the influence of alcohol
"Your Worship I admit that I stabbed Hopewell out of jealousy and above that I was heavily drunk. I was completely out of my senses. I beg for your mercy," said Ayanda.
Testifying before the magistrate Hopewell said: "I was just walking with my cousin sister heading to the shops. Ayanda came and accused me of flirting with his lover. I tried to explain but he insulted us. He stabbed me three times above the left eye, two times below the right eye and four times on the left shoulder."
Ayanda was convicted and sentenced to 24 months of which three months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within five years. Lungisani Dube appeared for the State.
