AN unrepentant 78-year old Tsholotsho child rapist has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for raping his eight year-old granddaughter.
Pada Austin Moyo, who in 2012 was sentenced to 20 years for raping a five year old toddler, was freed on the Presidential pardon programme after serving only one month of the sentence.
Yesterday he was dragged back to the Bulawayo magistrate court, accused of raping his granddaughter.
He denied the rape charge but was convicted and sentenced to an effective 11 years by regional magistrate Chrispen Mberewere.
The court heard that on 28 November, Moyo went into a hut were his granddaughter was sleeping with her two sisters, undressed from the waist down and raped her.
The child reported the issue to her father and said she no longer wanted to stay with Moyo.
The frightened child said her grandfather would continue hurting her if she stayed with him.
Her father reported the matter to the police station and the child was taken to hospital for an examination, which proved she had been sexually abused.
Magistrate Mberewere said it was clear Moyo had not repented after his first brush with prison in 2012.
He said he was ignoring Moyo's advanced age this time around because that was what got him a lenient sentence in 2012.
He sentenced Moyo to seven years and added four years that were suspended from his sentence in 2012.
