Rapist collapses after 30 year jail sentence

A Nkayi man, Misheck Moyo, 56, collapsed in court after receiving a 30 year jail sentence for raping his 16 year old niece.

Moyo preyed on his niece on four occasions within three days in August last year in the absence of his wife who had visited Bulawayo.

He threatened the niece with murder if she spoke about the deed but his luck ran out when his wife found him kissing the girl in a granary.

Bulawayo senior regional magistrate Trynos Utawashe said while Moyo was a first offender, men should understand that rape is a serious.

Utawashe suspended 10 of the sentence on condition that Moyo does not commit a similar offence.
