An Inyathi couple has been arrested for taking turns to thrash their bedwetting three year old child until she died.
Gilbert and Sinazweni Ndlovu briefly appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to murder charge as they insist that the death was not due to the heavy beating.
"Your worship, the child did not die due to injuries sustained after we beat her. But she fell down and sustained a serious head injury after we rushed her to hospital.
"We never beat her to that extent," said Gilbert.
The court heard that on April 10, Gilbert went to his homestead around 10 am and found his wife trashing their now deceased child with a stick for wetting the blankets.
According to B-Metro, the next day the girl messed the blankets and that prompting the couple to take turn to trash her again.
That resulted in the child falling unconscious and rushed to Inyathi hospital.
She temporarily recovered but was not in position to eat.
She was transferred to Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo and died a week later.
The couple was remanded in custody to April 27 for sentencing.
