ZANU-PF's quest to regain Tsholotsho North constituency in Matabeleland North Province has gone a gear up with the provincial Youth League establishing structures to rally party members and supporters behind Professor Jonathan Moyo's candidature.
Provincial youth chair Tamuka Nyoni said they had deployed a district team into the constituency and will be joined by the provincial team this weekend.
Nyoni said they are preparing a programme that will run until the by-election is held on June 10.
"The district team is already on the ground and as a province we're going there on Tuesday (yesterday) to boost the process. This weekend we will be meeting the top seven to come up with teams that we will deploy and design a programme for the whole period until June 10," said Nyoni.
As part of the campaign, Nyoni said they would have an inter-district team to tour all districts in the province as well as conduct a clean-up campaign in Tsholotsho North.
He said the by-election presented an opportunity for people to correct their mistake of voting for then MDC-T's Roseline Nkomo who failed to deliver in the constituency or contribute in parliament until she was recalled recently.
Nkomo is one of the 21 former MDC-T MPs who lost their seats following their defection from the Morgan Tsvangirai-led party to form the MDC Renewal Team.
Nyoni urged people of Tsholotsho North to vote for Zanu-PF for development as the party has a proven record.
"People made a protest vote but now they've realised which party is real. We're saying people should vote Zanu-PF because that's the only party that brings development. Take for example Binga District, the two constituencies are underdeveloped because they have been in the hands of MDC-T," said Nyoni.
Prof Moyo will face two candidates with links to the MDC-T and the MDC Renewal Team, who filed papers as independent candidates.
These are Gertrude Sibanda, a proxy for the MDC Renewal Team and Busani Ncube, said to be a MDC-T runner.
Officially, the MDC-T and MDC Renewal are not contesting in any by-elections.
Bulawayo will see by-elections in Makokoba, Luveve, Pelandaba-Mpopoma, Pumula and Lobengula.
In the Midlands, Mbizo voters will go to the polls as well while by-elections in Harare will be held in Highfield West, Glenview South, Kuwadzana, Kambuzuma, Dzivarasekwa and Harare East constituencies.
In Manicaland, by-elections will be held in Headlands and Chikanga-Dangamvura. In Mashonaland West, Hurungwe West will be contested on June 10.
