Work to complete the Mbembesi Bridge project, which came to a standstill in 2004 after donors withdrew their funding, has resumed.
The project will now be funded through road fund.
The Mbembesi bridge is one of the many projects that were affected by the pulling out of donors at the height of economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe at the turn of the millennium.
The project, which was being bankrolled by the Kuwait Fund was abandoned before the bridge was linked to the Bulawayo-Nkayi highway.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Mr Munesushe Munodawafa said work to complete the project which has since commenced will cost US$3,2 million.
Close to US$1 million has so far been set aside.
Once the Mbembesi project is completed, work on Ngwingwisi Bridge will start, according Mr Munodawafa.
Nngwingwisi bridge is located about 15km from Mbembesi.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that the country`s road network can be improved through efficient management of road funds.
The Principal Director for Infrastructural Development in the Ministry of Transport, Engineer Eric Gumbie said only 20 percent of the country's roads are in good condition, hence the need to make use of the roads fund to refurbish roads.
Some roads damaged during the Cyclone Eline induced floods in 2000 are yet to be repaired.
