A TEACHER at Mambo High School in Gweru allegedly hanged herself at her house in Mkoba 13 suburb after her husband accused her of infidelity.

Catherine Kandenga allegedly hanged herself from a tree at her home last Wednesday following a heated argument with her Botswana-based husband, named only as Baba Sean.

The Chronicle visited the house where relatives and neighbours confirmed her death.

"Her husband was accusing Kandenga of sleeping around while he was in Botswana," said a relative who declined to be named.

She said following a long telephone conversation, Kandenga told her husband that she had decided to kill herself.

The relative said Kandenga wrote a suicide note alleging that the husband had accused her of infidelity.

"When Kandenga told her husband that she wanted to end her life, he phoned his brother who then went to Kandenga's house to check on her around 4AM. The brother found Kandenga hanging from a tree in the yard a few metres from the house," said the relative.

A neighbour who identified herself as Rumbidzai said Kandenga and her husband had a long standing dispute and he had "trust issues".

Kandenga graduated from Midlands State University recently and was now teaching at Mambo Primary School.

Kandenga's body was removed by police who attended the scene and taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem

Acting Midlands Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende said: "There's no electricity at Mkoba Police Station at the moment. We're still waiting for communication. We'll furnish you with details as soon as they become available."
