SENATOR CHIEF Gampu of Tsholotsho has said there are vast gold deposits in his area but government was dragging its feet to extract the precious resource.
Speaking at the senate last week, he said if the gold was mined jobs would be created.
"My question to the Deputy Minister of Mines is where I come from in Tsholotsho under Chief Gampu, there is an area that is called Dongwe where gold was found underground.
"It has been years since it was discovered but nothing has been done. My people would like to know what is stopping the Government from extracting the gold and for it to be used such that employment is created.
However, in response the Deputy Minister of mines and mining development Freddy Moyo said he needed more time to investigate the claims.
"Am glad to hear the good news… I would like to ask the hon. senator to give me details so that I will investigate and will certainly take positive action,".
During his tenure as mines minister Obert Mpofu confirmed the gold deposits in Dogwe.
He said Canister Resources has been operating in the area 'looking for a number of minerals that include gold and diamonds. The initial finding has been gold.
"The company has confirmed that there are substantial amounts of gold in the area," Mpofu was quoted saying
