The Victoria Falls Municipality has warned that it would not bow down to any pressure to approve the controversial multimillion dollar Santonga Historical and Recreational Park.
Council said it was still accessing the project proposal Africa Albida Tourism and any "speculative actions and debate that may jeopardise the internal processes of Council by either seeking to pre empt or influence in anyway the decision in favour of or against the proposal".
AAT recently said it had budgeted $18 million for the project to be set up adjacent to the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge
Below is the full statement issued by Victoria Falls Town Clerk Christopher Dube:
"THE Municipality of Victoria Falls notes with concern, the on-going debate surrounding the Santonga Project in carious media across the country and would like to set the record straight for the benefit of all stakeholders
"The municipality did receive The Santago Project concept paper in 2007 and approved it as a development project proposal from Africa Albida tourism Group.
"Further to the above, the Environmental Impact Assessment that was approved has since expired and new consultation processes are being conducted and recommendations made to the relevant authorities to aid decision making.
"The updated EIA is going to be subjected to the due processes within Council and like any other investment project it will be assessed and a resolution passed based on its merits and demerits in due course, through the right channels of communications.
"We advise stakeholders to desist from speculative actions and debate that may jeopardise the internal processes of Council by either seeking to pre-empt or influence in anyway the decision in favour of or against the proposal.
