Gwanda council police on Wednesday reportedly engaged in the looting of vendors wares on condition that they were operating at undesignated points.
Gwanda resident Sichasisile Ndlovu posted on her Facebook page that council officials engaged in the looting spree of vendors wares at Phakama Business centre.
"Council police looting wares from women selling at Phakama Business Centre," said Ndlovu.
"As I want driving around Phakama business centre, I saw Munipality Police truck carrying tomatoes, green vegs, onions etc and it was clear that they took them away from women who usual sit opposite Serho. There were few women there who looked dejected."
She said she want to believe that these women earn a living by selling on the streets.
"Therefore if the city fathers want them out of the streets they should give them alternative market stalls. The welfare of these women is based on selling therefore if they can't sell for a day their families will starve and they won't be able to meet their family needs," she said.
The development comes at a time when the Zimbabwe National Army has since given an ultimatum for vendors to have vacated the city centres by next week.
