Woman steals family R90 000, spends it with boyfriend on beer

A daring Inyathi woman eloped with a boyfriend and squandered R90 000 on beer which was meant to purchase a housing stand, a magistrate heard.

The incident occurred at  Dromoland in May.

Miriam Sibanda is married to Thabani Sibanda.

She reportedly told the money which was kept in family safe box and  fled with her lover Maqhawe Moyo who works in South Africa.

According B-Metro, Miriam and Moyo spent the money on beer but their affairs soon collapsed as she was dumped at Inyathi Business Centre.

Thabani made a report to the police who nabbed Miriam at a night club.

In court, she pleaded not guilty to theft.

"Your worship, I only took R5 000 and I used R2 5000. I did not take R90 000.  l left R85 000 in the safe box," she said.

But her husband maintained that she stole R90 000.

"Your worship, I am quite sure she is the one who took the money because she was the one who was keeping the keys for the safe where we kept the money.

"I found the safe open but without any sign of tampering and that forced me to believe that she is the one who took the money."

"She is an irresponsible person. Am fed up with her," added Thabani.

 Miriam was remanded out of custody to June 9.
