ALL is set for the Zanu-PF Tsholotsho North star rally to be held at Mbiriya Primary School, with the country's two Vice-Presidents, Phelekezela Mphoko and Emmerson Mnangagwa expected to grace the occasion.

The two Vice-Presidents are expected to wind up the campaign in the constituency where Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo is representing the ruling party against two independent candidates, Mr Busani Ncube and Ms Getrude Sibanda.

In an interview with Sunday News yesterday, Zanu-PF Matabeleland North provincial chairperson Richard Moyo said the two senior party officials would be the main speakers and help wind up the campaign rallies in the constituency.

He said with the work that had been done by the campaign teams he was confident of a resounding victory come Wednesday.

"The two Vice-Presidents will be the main speakers at the rally, a feat we believe is a blessing for the constituency and the province and goes to show how serious the party is in taking back this constituency. As you might know, quite a number of senior party officials have been busy in the constituency holding meetings with villagers and tomorrow's (today) rally is more of a climax to our campaign.

"We expect that proceedings will start promptly at 10am and accompanying the two Vice-Presidents will be all the Politburo and Central Committee members from the province hence we expect this to be a big function, besides, it is not always that two Vice-Presidents descend on one place," said Moyo.

The provincial chairperson said they were confident as a party that the constituency was now theirs noting that they were now working on the margin of victory.

"We are not worried about victory because we know that we have won, what we are now working on is the margin of victory. What makes us this confident is that our teams have been busy campaigning, they have been literally been to every part of Tsholotsho North and even the people of Tsholotsho now want development and the ruling party is the only party that can bring that development," said Moyo.

When a Sunday News crew visited the venue of the rally yesterday, people were busy setting up tents, slaughtering cattle and preparing for the rally. A Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority team was also busy installing electricity at the primary school.

Chief Siphoso, who was part of the team making the preparations, said the fact that the two Vice-Presidents were visiting the district was an honour which everyone, regardless of political affiliation, should take advantage of to come air their grievances.

"The two Vice-Presidents are not Zanu-PF or MDC-T Vice-Presidents they are Vice Presidents of Zimbabwe. Therefore, people should come in their numbers for this rally as this is one of the few opportunities where they can say out all their grievances and hopefully the Vice Presidents will be in a position to offer possible solutions.

"As traditional leaders we are taking this meeting seriously which is why you see me here trying to assist in the preparations regardless of this being Chief Tategulu's area," said Chief Siphoso.

Meanwhile, a tour of the constituency revealed that the two independent candidates who will be challenging Prof Moyo for the seat have all but disappeared as three days before the holding of the by-elections none of them have put up campaign posters or held any rallies.

Moyo laughed off their campaign noting that they were in no position to defeat Prof Moyo as they had nothing to offer.

"These two are just taking the people of Tsholotsho North for granted, they are nobodies. They have literally failed to hold rallies or at least put up campaign posters which clearly shows you that they are not serious," said Moyo.

Tshitatshawa village head Mr Patrick Dube said as villagers they only voted for people who brought development as being an MP was an all-encompassing duty where no one could just wake up and feel they could become one.

"We haven't seen these independent candidates, we just know them as fellow villagers and nothing else. However, Prof Moyo as per comparison has been here with senior Zanu-PF officials we never thought we would see in person, that are the true attributes of a leader," said Mr Dube.

Councillor Patrick Ngwenya, who is from Tsholotsho South, but is part of the Zanu-PF Tsholotsho North campaign team revealed that even one of the independent candidates, Mr Ncube, was fast noting that he could not challenge Prof Moyo as he had recently begged that he be also part of those who benefited from maize and rice donated by the Minister.

"He actually called me saying people were barring him from accessing the rice and maize and I instructed them to give him as this was everyone's food," said Clr Ngwenya.
