A SELF-PROCLAIMED Lupane prophet is fighting for life in hospital after disgruntled clients, whom he allegedly fleeced of a cow claiming he had removed goblins from their homestead, split his head open with an axe.
The incident occurred on 12 August at Dandanda in Lupane at around 9pm. It is reported that the four assailants are still at large.
However, police have identified two of them as Phahla Ncube and Macheso Ncube.
The quartet allegedly teamed up against the prophet after discovering that he had taken them for a ride.
The bitter clients approached the prophet on the fateful day demanding their beast back because they had realised that the services provided had been fruitless as the goblins still haunted their homestead.
The parties failed to reach an agreement as the prophet refused to return their cow.
The fuming quartet forcibly proceeded to the prophets' kraal without his consent to get their beast.
The move did not go well with the prophet and as a result, a fracas erupted leading the quartet beating up the man. They overpowered the prophet and struck him five times on the head.
Officer commanding Lupane district Chief Superintendent Johannes Govo confirmed the incident adding that the man was left lying unconscious.
"According to the reports we received, it is said that the prophet was hired by the Ncube family to remove some goblins. After the ritual, the family paid him a beast.
"When the family discovered that the troubling goblins still haunted them, they then approached the prophet," said Chief Supt Govo.
He revealed that the prophet refused to give Ceasar what belonged to him and as a result it earned him a beating.
"The prophet is seriously ill and is at St Lukes hospital where he is fighting for his life. He was struck five times on the head and sustained deep cuts," he said.
The men left the prophet for dead and villagers made a report to Dandanda police station.
Police swiftly attended to the scene and ferried the prophet to hospital.
"We are still investigating on the case and at the moment we can not reveal the name of the prophet for certain reasons," he said.
