Gweru City council has warned illegal vendors who deserted their official trading stands to return or face prosecution.
City town clerk, Daniel Matawu said those who fail to take up their stands risk losing them.
The directive follows impeding government crackdown on illegal vendors countrywide.
"Notice is hereby given to all vendors in undesignated sites in the City in contravention of the Council by-laws to stop their activities forthwith," said Matawu in a public notice.
"All those with bays at the following sites: Kudzanayi, TM Supermarket, Wimpy, Kombayi Wholesale Market, Spar, Mkoba 6 Shopping centre, Mkoba 9, 10,14,15,16,18 Shopping centre, Senga, Chirundu Shopping centre and Senga Nehosho, Mtapa A and B, Ascot and Mambo should return and occupy their bays accordingly, failure of which the bays will be repossessed and reallocated to other deserving beneficiaries on the councils waiting list."
"The vendor who does not have trading space and required designated vending space should approach our Housing and Community services office at the corner of RG Mugabe Street and 8th Street to register. Those who continue to defy the notice will be prosecuted," he added.
"Council believes that the trading from designated sites empowers traders as they will be doing business without enduring running battles with the municipality police and other law enforcements agents".
