Beer drum falls, kill 7 month old baby

A seven month year old Lupane baby died on the spot after a 50 litres drum meant for traditional beer preparation spilled on her.
The incident happened in Namama under Chief Makbikwa area on June 6 around 7am.
The mother of the deceased, Fedelia Ngwenya is said to have placed the drum on fire outside her kitchen to prepare traditional beer.
Around 7am, she left her three children aged 6, 3 and 7 months sleeping in her bedroom hut while she headed to her neighbours homestead to collect a cooking stick.
According to B-Metro, the children suspected to have woken up as soon as their mother left and went to sit around the fireplace where the drum was boiling with water in an effort to warm themselves.
However, tragedy struck as one of the stone supporting the drum gave in, spilling the boiling contents on two kids and severely burning them.
The publication said screams of pain from the kids altered Ngwenya who rushed back to only to find where kids wriggling in pain.
The children were taken to St Paul's hospital but the younger one died on admission.
