A 45-YEAR-OLD Binga man was recently arrested after he fatally assaulted his 80-year-old mother after she inquired about her cow which had strayed

Esca Dubc of Siamagoba Village in Lubimbi, under Chief Kavula, is said to have gone to her son Solomon Dube's homestead to find out whether her grandson who tended her cattle had seen her missing cow.

While she was talking to her grandson, Solomon came out of his bedroom hut and started verbally abusing her for daring to think that he might have stolen her beast.

He then grabbed her walking stick and began assaulting her all over the body resulting in her bleeding profusely from the nose before collapsing.

Confirming the incident, Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese said after committing the offence Solomon fled the scene together with his son who was frightened by the whole experience.

A little later, Esca gained consciousness, stood up and tried to walk to her homestead but again collapsed 20 metres away. A relative who had come to visit her found her lying in a pool of blood and she was rushed to the nearest clinic where she succumbed to her injuries on her arrival.

"We have since arrested a Solomon Dube of Siamagoba village in Lubimbi, Binga under chief Kavula in connection with the murder and he is assisting us with investigations. He is set to appear in court soon facing a murder charge," said Asst Inspector Makonese.
