Chief Sikobokobo of Nkayi has accuced his local Rural District Council of sabotaging development efforts by failing to allocate donors land to build schools on time.
Chief Sikobokobo said the local authority was taking too long to give donors wishing to construct schools land.
According to Southern Eye, Chief Sikobokobo said the delays could scare away donors yet the district was in desperate need of learning institutions.
Nkayi is one of the poorest districts in Matabeleland North province.
"The problem is our council is delaying us by not allocating school stands," the chief said.
"We have a number of donors willing to assist this area, but everything is on hold. Our council is failing to prioritise the need for schools."
Chief Sikobokobo claimed individuals with business interests were being allocated stands without much struggle.
"I have asked them several times and I don't know the reason for the delay," he said.
"It is sad because donors might end up losing interest in building any schools in this area. I did all the paper work last year and l have gone to the council numerous times with no joy.
"Our schools are being discriminated against because we are lagging behind with technology.
"They call it a computer generation, but nothing is being done to improve that in our area.
"I hope that in future this area will be prioritised and see some development."
