The government has been challenged to channel resources towards the upgrading of infrastructure at the busiest inland port of entry in sub-Saharan Africa, the Beitbridge Border Post.

This came out when Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko visited Beitbridge.

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority says the Beitbridge Border Post rakes in about two million dollars a day and an estimated sixty million dollars a month.

ZIMRA however queries why no resources have been directed towards addressing the problem of outdated and inadequate infrastructure at the border post.

The Member of Parliament for Beitbridge East, Kembo Mohadi, said despite Beitbridge's contribution to the fiscus through various economic activities, there are several incomplete projects whose work has been stalled for years due to lack of funds.

The government is looking into introducing the one stop border post concept in Beitbridge in an effort to address the challenges faced at the port of entry, according to Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko.

The border post handles over ten thousand incoming and outgoing travellers and clears about one thousand vehicles daily.
