A man from Tsholotsho who was arrested and dragged to court after being found in possession of 20, 27 kgs of mbanje (cannabis) left the court in stitches when he claimed one day he had a dream that he should grow mbanje to support his family which he later did.

Themba Moyo (52) pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal possession of prohibited drug (Mbanje) when he appeared before Tsholotsho magistrate Victor Mpofu. The magistrate convicted and sentenced him to 48 months in jail. Thirty months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

In mitigation Moyo said the possession of mbanje he committed was after he had a dream that it was the only means in which he can support his family. He said at first he was fearing to do it but later gained courage and started growing it.

The court heard that on June 25 2015 two police officers at Sipepa Police Station raided Moyo's home after they were tipped that he was a mbanje grower.

They found Jaqueline Sibanda who confirmed to them that Moyo had the dagga. They searched his huts and found 20,27kgs of mbanje. Moyo was arrested on June 26.
