AN Insuza man recently killed his seven-month-old daughter after he accidentally struck her with a hosepipe while trying to beat his wife during a domestic dispute.

This was revealed when Jeffrey Tshuma of Hlanganani Village appeared before Mrs Charity Maphosa facing a murder charge as defined in Section 47 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act chapter 9.23 at the Bulawayo magistrates court.

Prosecuting, Mr Brian Dlodlo told the court that on 28 July, Tshuma had a dispute with his wife, whose name was not provided in court. The accused went on to take a 78 centimetre long hosepipe intending to beat his wife but accidentally struck the baby who was in her mother's arms.

It is alleged that they then rushed the baby to the clinic but she died while they were on their way there. The hosepipe was found at the house.

Tshuma was remanded in custody and will appear at the High Court on Wednesday.

When asked by the magistrate if he had any complaints against the police, Tshuma revealed he was assaulted during interrogation.

"The problem I have is that they did not treat me well, one of the police officers grabbed me by my private parts which I think is very wrong," said Tshuma.

However, Tshuma was not able to identify the policeman who assaulted him.
