Mugabe's ally calls for urgent business indaba

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda has called for the business indaba on the ease of doing business in Zimbabwe as a platform to address all bottlenecks that affect local and foreign direct investment to the country.

In his closing remarks at the three-day joint sensitisation workshop for the Parliamentary Portfolio Committees on Industry and Commerce; Finance and Economic Development; Foreign Affairs and Youth Development, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment on the ease of doing business in Zimbabwe, Advocate Jacob Mudenda called for the holding of a business indaba before the end of the year.

He said the business indaba on the ease of doing business in Zimbabwe is a strategy to buttress President Mugabe's 10 point plan which he said has the capacity to revive the economy.

Advocate Mudenda tasked the President of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), Mr Busisa Moyo to coordinate the event that will also be attended by other business organisations, miners, farmers and government ministries and departments among other stakeholders.

On the harmonisation of the country's laws with the new constitution, Advocate Mudenda called on government to engage the faculties of law in local universities, the Law Society of Zimbabwe and the Legal Resources Foundation to work with the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs in speeding up the process.

He further called for a one stop investment center to be put in place by December this year, adding that parliament must spearhead the introduction of bills promoting this.
