Neighbour sentenced to 10 years for raping girl (16)

A man from Dandanda in Jotsholo has been slapped with 10 years in jail for raping and impregnating a neighboring girl aged 16.
Mthandazo Bhebhe (18) pleaded not guilty to rape charged when he appeared before Hwange regional court magistrate Dambudzo Malunga who however convicted him at the close of the state case.
The magistrate sentenced him to 10 years in jail. The girl he raped was confirmed to be mentally ill.
Prosecutor Tawanda Sigauke told the court that between January 18 and June 30 2013 the complainant was coming from Dandanda Primary School alone when she met Bhebhe who got hold of her and dragged her into the bush where he raped her.
The girl cried to no avail as there was no one who could help.
In July 2013 her grand mother discovered that she was pregnant and she decided to take her to the police who advised her to take her to St Luke's Hospital for examination.
At hospital it was confirmed she was pregnant. The girl is also dumb and in court she used sign language in testifying.
