Judge reserves ruling on fired Gweru councilors

The lawyer representing the sacked Gweru councilors said yesterday that the High Court had agreed that the challenge to overturn the dismissal of Gweru councilors was valid and the presiding judge had said she needed time to write the verdict in full.

The judge conceded that the Urban Councils Act Section 114, is now being superseded by Section 278 of the new Constitution, which states that an Act of Parliament must provide for the establishment of an independent tribunal to remove councilors from office.
