A GRADE Six pupil has dropped out of a school in Victoria Falls after she was impregnated by a man twice her age, a court heard yesterday.

It is alleged that the 13-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons met 24-year-old Thembelani Dube sometime last month and he proposed love before they went on to have sex.

The pupil allegedly co-habited with Dube for three days last month and her family reported her as missing to the police.

Police subsequently located her at Dube's house three days later and the man was arrested.

The girl was reunited with her family and her father took her for a pregnancy test last week which confirmed that she was one month pregnant.

Dube was yesterday charged with engaging in sex with a minor when he appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani.

He was not asked to plead to the charges and was remanded out of custody pending transfer of the matter to Hwange regional court to November 2.

Prosecuting, Takunda Ndovorwi told the court that Dube met the Grade Six girl and proposed love. The two fell in love and had consensual sex at Dube's place of residence last month.

"On September 7at 7PM the accused met the girl at Mkhosana Shopping Centre and they fell in love. Dube invited her to spend the night at his Mkhosana residence. During the night the two engaged in consensual sex once. The following day the two again engaged in sex with the girl's consent," the prosecutor said.

The court heard that the girl's failure to return home prompted her parents report her as missing to the police.

Three days later police located her at Dube's residence leading to his arrest.
