A MAN from Nyamandlovu who allegedly killed his girlfriend and buried her in a shallow grave near his homestead following a domestic dispute, yesterday appeared in court.

Qinisela Sibanda, 30, from Donga Village under Chief Mabikwa, allegedly strangled his girlfriend, Judith Mlauzi, with a rope last Tuesday.

He later dug a shallow grave where he buried Mlauzi and went on to burn her belongings.

Sibanda briefly appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya to confirm his statements.

He was remanded in custody to November 4.

Prosecuting, Nathaniel Mutsikwa said on October 13 near Rejoice Mlilo's homestead in Nyamandlovu, Sibanda strangled his girlfriend.

"Sibanda dug a shallow grave about 80cm deep and 2 metres long. After the act he took the shovel he used to dig the grave and hid it in a nearby thorn enclosure about 200m away from the scene of the crime. He then took Mlauzi's cellphone and stayed two more days before fleeing to Lupane," said Mutsikwa.

A teenager looking for stray cattle, the court heard, discovered Mlauzi's body last Friday.

"Sibanda was arrested in Lupane and was found in possession of Mlauzi's cellphone. He later made indications and led police to the place he had burnt her belongings and to where he hid the shovel," said Mutsikwa.

Mlauzi is not the only recent victim of domestic violence.

A teacher from Tsholotsho brutally beat up his live-in girlfriend for three days resulting in her death on Sunday.

He spent a night in bed with the corpse.

Villagers effected a citizen's arrest on Obert Ncube, 43, on Monday at around 4PM at Dadajena Village after he had been on the run for 12 hours.

The village is about 10 kilometres from Bemba Primary School where he allegedly killed Sarudzai Mutuma, 35, who was a teacher for more than seven years at the same school.
