The government says the Victoria Falls International Airport will be operational by the end of November this year.
This came out after a tour of the new airport terminal by government ministers and visiting Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Zhang Xiangchen.
Mr Zhang arrived in Victoria Falls late Wednesday afternoon and was met by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Joram Gumbo, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgar Mbwembwe, senior government officials and stakeholders in the tourism sector.
The delegation immediately proceeded to a tour the new international terminal, where Gumbo revealed that the objective of Mr Zhang's visit is to inspect the airport expansion project which is now 95% complete.
"This work is being done with Chinese assistance so he is coming to have a look at what has happened so far, and also to make sure that the project is finished on time because there are many other projects that we would like to do with the Chinese," he said.
The expansion project which includes a new international terminal building, a new 4-kilometre runway with associated taxiways, aprons, air navigation systems, control tower and fire station among other facilities was funded through a concessionary loan facility of $150 million by the China Exim bank.
