A 21-year-old Jotsholo man reportedly burnt down the church building after being accused of stealing offerings amounting to $600.
The man, Njabulo Nkomo, was an usher at the Apostolic Faith Mission Church.
Part of his duties were to collect church offerings during a services.
On May 23, Nkomo could not resist temptations and he allegedly stole $500.
Two days later he was at it again. He stole $200.
The fraud was discovered on June 4 by a treasurer when auditing the church books.
To destroy the evidence, Nkomo then set the church building on fire and fled.
A massive manhunt was launched and was only arrested in September in Lupane.
In court, he pleaded guilty.
"I admit that I tampered with the tithes receipt book and stole $600 not $700 as it is said. I wanted to go to South Africa to look for a job. I was planning to pay back after I secure employment," he said.
Nkomo was remanded in custody to October 29 for continuation of trial.
