A FORM Three Tokwana Secondary School pupil in Bulilima District stabbed his classmate four times, leaving him severely wounded over a missing disc. The 15-year-old stabbed the other pupil while they were on their way from school on Friday afternoon.
The stab victim was admitted to Plumtree District Hospital and discharged on Sunday. The pupil accused his classmate of spreading rumours that he had stolen a disc that was reported missing from their classroom.
The headman of the area in which the pupils live, Shadreck Dube confirmed the incident. He said an altercation between the teenagers started when they had just left the school premises on Friday.
"The boys had knocked off from school and while they were in a bush the 15-year-old started accusing his classmate of spreading lies that he had stolen a disc which had gone missing from their classroom," said Dube.
"The quarrel got worse and the classmate was stabbed twice in the back, once on the arm and once on his side."
He said the Form Three pupil was restrained from further attacking his classmate by their peers.
He said the victim was rushed to Tokwana Clinic where he was later referred to Plumtree District Hospital.
Dube said it was alarming that children were engaging in serious crimes and carried harmful weapons to school.
He said there was need for parents to instil discipline in their children and for school authorities to monitor pupils closely.
The victim's uncle said he received a message on Friday afternoon alerting him that his nephew had been stabbed.
He said they had reported the incident to the police and they were still waiting for a response.
"My nephew lives under my care. They told me that he had been injured and when I found him he had lost a lot of blood from the wounds. He was lucky because the wounds were not very deep otherwise the condition could have been worse," he said.
"He's now at home and he's starting to move around but he hasn't gone back to school. We talked to the parents of his classmate and they've agreed to cover all medical costs."
