A 36-YEAR-OLD Lupane villager allegedly struck her mother with an axe on the head and chest accusing her of unilaterally engaging a neighbour to do a part-time job at their home without her consent.
Bridget Moyo was not asked to plead to an attempted murder charge when she appeared before Hwange magistrate, Portia Mhlanga Moyo on Monday.
The alleged incident occurred in Kabela village, Lupane, on August 21 this year.
Moyo was remanded in custody to November 4 for trial.
The court heard that on the particular day, Bridget picked an argument with her mother, Gladys Moyo (62), whom she accused of unilaterally assigning Ivy Moyo to do household chores at their home. Bridget argued that Ivy should have sought employment in South Africa instead of doing menial jobs in the neighbourhood, but her mother told her off, saying she had no obligation to consult her on who to hire for part-time jobs.
Bridget then picked up an axe and struck her mother three times on the head and once on the chest and fled the scene, leaving her lying on the ground writhing in pain. The matter was then reported to police, while her victim was rushed to St Luke's Mission Hospital for treatment.
The court remanded her in custody to November 4 for trial and also ordered that she be examined by at least two psychiatricians.
