A JEALOUS Hwange man tracked down his ex-wife to a music show, where he allegedly assaulted her for moving on with a new boyfriend.
Matengo Mpande (35) of Lwendulu area pleaded guilty to assault charges when he appeared before Hwange magistrate, Portia Mhlanga Moyo, on Tuesday.
Mhlanga Moyo convicted Mpande of the charge and sentenced him to three months in jail or alternatively to pay a $100 fine.
On being asked why he assaulted his ex-wife, the accused said: "I was angry when I found her in a certain car with a man, saying she was going to a show."
Prosecutor Onias Nyathi told the court that on October 17, Mpande followed Irene Mpala to a music show to see her new partner.
A bitter and jealous Mpande later confronted Mpala and asked her the whereabouts of her new boyfriend.
But Mpala told him that it was none of his business, a response that angered the accused.
Mpande assaulted her with fists before trying to choke her. She sustained injuries and later made a report to the police leading to Mpande's arrest.
Mpala was taken to Hwange Colliery Hospital where she was treated.
